This advertisement for Edward Giles, Grocer and Shoe Merchant, Augher appeared as a half page ad in Elizabeth Carmichael-Ferrall’s 1913 cookbook.
The book was entitled The Augher Book of Maxims, Household Hints and Recipes. It cost one shilling and was printed by W. & G. Baird, Royal Avenue, Belfast.

The 1911 Irish census lists Edward Giles as a 29 year old merchant and farmer who had been married to his wife Isabella for 6 years at the time of the census. The couple had a 4 year old son called Samuel and a 1 year old daughter named Annie Bella – what a pretty name! The family lived at 29 Main Street Augher in County Tyrone.
