A simple traditional apple custard pudding. If blackberries are in season they can go into the pudding too. Any stewed fruit may be used in place of the apples.
My grandmother gave this pudding pride of place in the centre of the table after dinner had been eaten. Her best tablecloth would be on the table and she served this on top of a silver dish with a lace frill around it.
Milk was creamier years ago – use the creamiest milk you can find, or substitute a little of the milk for some pure fresh cream.
