This Almond Topped Gooseberry Pie recipe was given to my Mum over 30 years ago by a customer who used to buy large punnets of gooseberries every summer from my parents’ market garden. The gooseberries were always ripe for picking when we got off school for summer, ready for Gooseberry Pie Sunday. This feast day is a movable date which always falls on the first Sunday of July, traditionally celebrated in England down through several hundred years. It marks the time when the gooseberry crop is ripe and ready for picking.
The good thing about this gooseberry pie recipe is that it uses frozen gooseberries, and so can be enjoyed at any time of the year.
